ABOUT US Jewelry has often been surrounded by symbolism. An engagement ring is seen as an expression of love and devotion. Tidewater Lapidary, Inc. debuted as a family business at 330 Boush Street in Norfolk 1968. At this time virtually all of the jewelry trade in Hampton Roads centered around downtown Norfolk. In 1976, the corporation moved to its present location 3930 East Princess Anne Road in the Norfolk Industrial Park Area. The corporation’s founders, Maryann and William E. Keller, Jr. started in the field with a longtime interest in lapidary or stone cutting. They pursued the hobby of “rock hounding” during various visits to quarries in California and other western states during the 1960’s. During these visits, they would find rough stones and show their beauty by cutting and further polishing them. After gaining momentum, the hobby grew into a business during the twilight years of Bill’s career in the Navy and continued in full force until his retirement as a submarine naval commander. “My dad started in the lapidary with the |
